{"id":13838257940,"date":"2012-03-27T23:04:31","date_gmt":"2012-03-27T23:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lonestarbullion.com\/blog\/?p=13838257940"},"modified":"2018-03-15T04:45:46","modified_gmt":"2018-03-15T04:45:46","slug":"the-next-subprime-crisis-student-loans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lonestarbullion.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/the-next-subprime-crisis-student-loans\/","title":{"rendered":"The Next Subprime Crisis: Student Loans?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/southwerk.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/student-loan-debt.jpg?w=256&amp;h=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2008, it was the subprime mortgage sector that unleashed the financial crisis.\u00a0 With the stock market at nearly the same level as it was in 2008, many investors question whether it can continue to rise so swiftly.\u00a0 Undeniably most of the rise that has occurred as a result of the QE that has taken place over the last four years.\u00a0 So the question is what event will set of the next 2008?<\/p>\n<p>One potential option is student loans.\u00a0 Last year the student debt rose to over $1 Trillion.\u00a0 That\u2019s right $1 Trillion.\u00a0 This is 1\/15 the size of the US economy.\u00a0 Student debt is rising at a rate of about $40-$50 Billion per month right now.\u00a0 What makes this ticking time bomb even more dangerous is that roughly 27%\u00a0or $270 billion\u00a0of all student loans are 30 days past due.\u00a0 Fitch made this information public recently in the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFitch believes most student loan asset-backed securities (ABS) transactions remain well protected due to the government guarantee on Family Federal Education Program (FFELP) loans.\u00a0<strong>The Federal Reserve Bank of New York recently reported that as many as 27% of all student loan borrowers are more than 30 days past due<\/strong>. Recent estimates mark outstanding student loans at $900 billion- $1 trillion.
